Women's History Month - Celebrating our Chefs: Part 2

March is Women’s History Month, a time to honor and celebrate the vital role of women in American history, and to celebrate we’re spotlighting some of our talented female chefs.

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, women run only 19.7% of restaurant kitchens, even though 47% of America’s workforce identifies as female. It is critical for business like FLIK to support female chefs and create welcoming environments where everyone has the chance to thrive.

That’s why this month, we’re so excited to celebrate some of the rockstar women in our organization who are making a difference!

At FLIK, we support and empower all our associates, motivating them to be the best they can be. Check out Part 1 of our Spotlight Series and be sure to check back later this month for additional spotlights!

How long have you been with FLIK Hospitality?

7 years

What inspired you to work in the culinary field?

I love taking care of people and being creative. Being able to do that through food is such a fun career; if we have to work for 60 years, we might as well have fun!

Who has influenced your cooking the most?

I've tried to pick up best practices and tricks from everyone I've worked with, but the people who influence me the most are my coworkers. If something I make tastes great to them, I'm sure our guests will be happy. They give me the freedom to be creative, but also give critical feedback, which helps all of us grow as chefs.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to aspiring female chefs?

Keep your eyes on everything going on around you; pay attention to the positive (and negative) qualities of the people around you, and use those to make you the best version of yourself. It's important to maintain a critical eye; ask "why" for your own understanding, but also try to find ways to make our processes more efficient and food more flavorful.

Always ask why. Surround yourself with people you can learn from. Lift weights. Lead by example. Take time to do things the right way. Stay positive, and you will attract positive people!
