National Nutrition Month - Meet the RDs: Part 1

Every Wellness Wednesday this month we’ll be introducing you to the nutrition experts behind FLIK’s wellness promotions, recipes, blog articles, Teaching Kitchens, and wellness events in your business (virtual and live, alike).

Meet Sonya Luisi, MS, RD/LDN, CWWPM
- DC Metro
1A Sonya

First Job: Bank Teller

Favorite FLIK Dish: Chickpea and Date Tagine

Wellness Tip: Eat fermented foods, including, yogurt, pickled vegetables, and sourdough bread, for physical and mental health! Science has proven that the gut can influence our emotions and feelings. These gut-derived hormones can influence mood, behavior, weight management, digestion, and absorption of nutrients.

Working Woman Tip: Self-care is the foundation of happiness and success. We need to fit our lives and our work into our self-care practice, rather than the other way around. When we define self-care for ourselves and choose to prioritize our well-being through sustained practicing of self-care, we are better able to find and give our unique talents, gifts, and contributions to the world.

Meet Danielle Cushing, RDN, CLT
- Chicago/Midwest
1B Danielle

First Job: To Go Girl at Chili’s

Favorite FLIK Dish: Wow. This is a hard one. I miss having access to a self-serve salad bar every day with premium, fresh ingredients like springy arugula, perfectly broiled and chilled salmon, brined kalamata olives, fluffy quinoa, and lightly roasted vegetables. I might never get to build my own salad bowl with exactly the right ratios again.

Wellness Tip: I'm more likely to naturally make healthy food choices if I feel good. Here's a list of things that contribute to my holistic wellbeing: fresh air, good lighting, a tidy workspace, a clean home, a good night's sleep, comfortable and confident clothing, getting my steps in.

Working Woman Tip: Learn how to have uncomfortable conversations. Observe the outspoken women you admire. Listen to career-minded podcasts. Get some tips from your ambitious friends. Giving your opinion or getting something you need could be a game changer for your personal career or for your company at large, but will never happen if you're too uncomfortable to speak up.

Meet Amanda Veneman RD. LD
- Louisville, KY
1C Amanda

First Job: Cashier at PicPac, a family-owned IGA grocery store

Favorite FLIK Dish: Constant access to endless vegetables and delicious desserts.

Wellness Tip: Find something you love and stick to it. Your wellness shouldn’t be dependent on continuing something you despise.

Working Woman Tip: Don’t put on a front, get to know people for who they are in real life and you’ll form better relationships which will serve you well throughout your career. Stay in touch with mentors and those who made a positive impact on you in previous jobs.
