Restaurateur Danny Meyer Will Help Open BK Navy Yard Food Hall

By Anna Quinn

FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN — A large food hall opening at the Brooklyn Navy Yard's newest office building will have a little help from well-known Manhattan restaurateur Danny Meyer, the developers announced.

Developers of Dock 72, a 675,000 square foot office building near the newest ferry stop, said Monday that they partnered with FLIK Hospitality Group and Union Square Events, which is run by part of Meyers' hospitality group that owns more than a dozen Manhattan restaurants.

FLIK will run the 13,000-square-foot food hall and Meyers' group will help consult on the food stations.

"The Brooklyn Navy Yard is furthering the transformation of the waterfront with new jobs, innovative architecture, and community placemaking, and we're excited to be a small part of it," Meyer said. "We've always loved participating in the evolution of New York's emerging neighborhoods, and we're looking forward to working together with our partners at Dock 72 to bring some good food and hospitality to where New York is growing."

The dining area is set to open by the end of the year, shortly after the entire building's official opening in October.

A representative for the developers said that it hasn't been worked out yet whether the food hall will be open to the public, or just to the 4,000 or so workers that will be employed in the building. Dock 72 will be a co-working space built by Boston Properties, Rudin Development, WeWork and the Navy Yard's Development Corporation in an old shipbuilding factory.

So far, developers have said that the food hall will include a bar, a coffee bar, a juice bar and other specialty vendors. Workers will be able to order their meals through an app, they said.

"From our dining area to our rooftop conference center, workers at Dock 72 will have fast and easy access to an incredible selection of local food and beverages at all times," said John Powers, New York Region Executive Vice President of Boston Properties.

The massive building will also include its own health and wellness center, an open lawn and basketball court.
